Weir gates are either downward opening or tilting (bottom hinged). The purpose of a Weir gate is to regulate the height of the medium by moving the gate up or down (downward opening) or by the tilting action of the bottom hinged Wier gate. Downward opening Wier gates are normally placed on the down stream face of a wall with sufficient recess below the bottom of the opening to allow for full downward movement of the gate.
